COPROLOGÍA

La coprología es el estudio científico de las heces. Este estudio se puede abordar desde muchas disciplinas, desde la identificación de animales (es una herramienta clave para la identificación de dinosaurios), el estudio de su alimentación o la investigación de enfermedades. Desde esta última perspectiva tendríamos la coproparasitología o coprología parasitaria, que es el estudio de las heces para determinar la presencia o no de parásitos.
La coprología parasitaria busca establecer la presencia o no en las heces de endoparásitos, en sus diferentes formas: trofozooitos, esporas, quiste, huevos, larvas y adultos.

La detección de los endoparásitos a veces es complicada, por la diversidad de los mismos, sus ciclos y distintas condiciones de las heces, por lo que no existe un ínico método que pueda establecer su presencia con claridad. El conocimiento puede ser macroscópico o microscópico. En el microscópio, se pueden observar en fresco o con distintos colorantes (como lugol, tionina o clorazol), o también con colorantes permanentes (como Ziehl-Neelsen, azul de metileno, safranina, giemsa, etc). Tambien existen técnicas de concentración, como la de flotación.
